About Tracy

Personal and Professional Motivations for pursuing an advanced degree.

“I love to learn, and the time has come again for me to challenge my mind, expand my knowledge, and take on a new adventure, but also to contribute to our learning community through acquiring new information that can help us meet the needs of our students.” ~Spring 2022

My motivation for pursuing an advanced degree was both personal and professional.

Professional Motivation

Professionally, I teach English to adult newcomers to Canada at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, a job I absolutely love.  But along with the joys is the frustration of identifying students with potential learning challenges and having no resources to be able to help them.  My goal was to gain knowledge and skills to be able to identify areas of need and help students reach their full potential.

Personal Motivation

family motivationPersonally, three of our four children were identified with learning disabilities: two with dyslexia and another with a broad range of right-brained, visual-spatial, executive functioning and memory difficulties.  It has been a long journey of learning how to leverage strengths and build strategies to support weaknesses, and even a bigger challenge knowing how to advocate within the school system for their needs and their success.
